“Bruised and Unsettled”

“A deep bruise takes time to heal.

Lines both connect and divide.

The black imposing shape at the neck is cutting off life, and  vertical bars restrict as if imprisoned.

The face is neither male nor female. It is a face of humanity that carries the unsettled feelings we have from the pandemic, and problems around race, gender, and inequality.

The greens in the background symbolize nature, self-reflection, and a direction of positive change.”

Somewhere during the pandemic years I did a series of faces. Most of these are charcoal on paper. I worked them up out of my head, and gave myself a time limit of 3-5 minutes. I missed seeing peoples faces, their smiles.
